Diablo 2 Resurrected Ethereal Items Guide

Ethereal Items can be body armors, helms, shields or weapons such as axes, swords, spears and javelins. These are transparent and can be unique, magic, rare and contain sockets.

Ethereal is an item flag like socketed and displayed as an attribute at the bottom of the item stats.

When an item is ethereal it will gain a bonus to its damage / defense, has reduced durability, reduced requirements and is no longer repairable without a self repairing attribute.

In the case the item should break faster than the self repairing is 'healing' the item, then it won't longer self-repair and the item will stay broken with a remaining durability of 0. This doesn't apply to throwing weapons which are replenishing their quantity, that means even if you go low to 0 it will still work and restore the quantity

Ethereal items do also gain a bonus to damage and defense by 50%. The durability is the half of the original and +1. Strength and Dexterity requirements are both reduced by 10.

In most cases eth (ethereal) items are being given to your mercenary as these never lose any durability and can therefore exclusively use the advantages of the increased damage and defense.

Another way to make an ethereal item indestructible is by socketing it with a Zod Rune which will fully remove the bad effect of the ethereal condition. Also runewords can be socketed into these which depending on the runes and use case can be much more powerful.
